Work is underway to create the most effective leadership and governance structures for our new provider group, to be made up of the four acute NHS trusts in north west London. This follows the appointment of Professor Tim Orchard as group chief executive in October. The group will formally launch on 1 April 2026.

Key developments over the six weeks or so include:

  • Agreeing the initial board director structure.
  • Streamlining board committees and governance.
  • Beginning the process to appoint an interim chief executive for Imperial College Healthcare, following Tim’s appointment as group chief executive.
  • Setting up a cross-trust group transition team to help coordinate changes.
  • Planning a major engagement programme for early next year to help ensure the group adds maximum value to the working lives of our staff and the health and care of our patients and local communities.

Tim said: “The move to a group model isn’t going to create any sudden changes in how we work but I want us to think and plan carefully for the changes we do need to make. Our trusts and hospitals have different but equally important roles in achieving better health and healthcare and we can achieve more just by improving the way we work together and support one another.

“We have tremendous expertise and experience across our organisations as well as many excellent partnerships and significant resources. I want to make it easier for us for all of us to tap into all of that.

“Our initial focus has needed to be governance and leadership changes to get the group set up but we want to move quickly into supporting the already extensive range of collaborative and user-focused initiatives led by our clinicians and others across our organisations.”
